Thinking about Public Space

Public space can almost be anything, anywhere. I dont exactly have a confirmed place that I am going to be observing and writing about, but I have a few places in mind. The first place I was thinking about observing was my cell phone provider Sprint. I was thinking of going in a few times and just watch how people interact inside the store. I kind of have a feeling that its going to be somewhat negative. I say this because everytime I go up there , its always for a reason other than what I want. Its usually a broken phone, paying my bill (I hate paying my cell bill), needing tech help, etc... Its always for some negative reason. Im sure there are people that come through that are just as happy as they want to be, but I just dont see it happening. Another space that I was thinking of observing was a restaurant. I didnt have a particualr one in mind, but I wanted to observe the different attitudes, and different types of people that come through at different times of the day.

  1. Hey man... I think you misinterpreted what I was trying to say. I really didn't have any attention in offending anyone so don't take it personally. She told us to write about what pre-conceived ideas we would have so I just wrote about how usually when I see kids (I mean like highschoolers) dressed like punks causing havoc that can be anyone you know that.
Putting that behind us, I think you have a really good idea with the sprint store thing. I'm usually always pissed when I have to go deal with the people at the store and I'm always short with them and just try and get in and out. Always gonna be interesting watch people argue trying to get their way. Good luck with it.

  2. I agree that a resturant would be a good place to observe people. That would be a place I'd go to relax, eat, maybe watch TV if a good game is on. I never would have thought about going to my cell phone provider. The only time I go there is if I have a problem with my phone or if I'm looking to upgrade to a better phone with the company. Good luck with your assignment man.
